“Train people well enough so they can leave.
Treat them well enough so they don’t want to.” Richard Branson.
A philosophy we use with our clients – and we encourage our clients to use themselves
As a consultancy, we believe our role is to help you help yourself. Whether you’re seeking some 1-1 coaching, or an organisation going through change. Our role is to help you learn how to be a champion of the relevant areas of Talent Management, so you and the Talent you work with can exceed your expectations.
Here are some of the ways we can help you:
"Teachers open the door, you enter by yourself." Chinese Proverb
When there is a clear objective, coaching is one of the best ways to impact an individual’s development. Our passion is unlocking potential through 1-1 and team coaching, and using profiling tools such as PI (Predictive Index) to help the individual know themselves. We work with small business owners and independent professionals, as well as executive leaders with large business portfolios and complex multi-national roles.
Typically, following a ‘pre’ meeting to agree the area(s) of focus and any ground rules, a typical coaching program would involve around 6 sessions, with a ‘post’ meeting to reflect on the experience and progress made. Each session is around 1.5-2 hours long, and the content will vary enormously – dependent totally upon the individual’s own needs, the area(s) of focus, and what’s getting in their way. It is, after all, a uniquely individual experience.
If it is relevant, we will also use different assessment tools to support self-awareness, thereby unlocking the individuals’ own obstacles.

“An army of a thousand is easy to find, but, ah, how to find a general.” Chinese Proverb
Leadership impact starts with understanding ourselves and the shadow we cast. We can help assess and develop leaders to be themselves with skill, either through workshops or on a 1-1 basis. We are able to use a number of different assessment tools to understand an individual’s own motivating or preferred behaviours, and to start the process of appreciation – what does it feel like to be led by me?
We will work with teams of leaders, or individuals on a 1-1 basis, to really understand what it means to lead, how to create followers rather than just direct reports, and to create the kind of business impact that true leadership inspires. Using bespoke workshops and experiences, and world-renowned tools such as MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), we can provide ideal learning environments for teams of leaders, where there is common language and shared commitment to develop, closely linked to the culture of your business.
Developing High Potentials
Bill Gates once said “Take my 20 best people, and virtually overnight, Microsoft becomes a mediocre company.“
High potentials are those few folks who can really ‘change the game’ with regard to business opportunities, or who can step up and provide important succession to critical roles. Identifying them is essential; developing them for the future is hard. We can help you with both.
Taking time to understand your vision for success will be an important part of how we can help you. We will then use a variety of different methods that might include personality profiling, experiential learning, and understanding critical roles in the context of the business vision. We will then help you put a plan in place to maximise their impact in your business, and support you in the execution of that plan.
“A man who does not plan long ahead, will find trouble right at his door.” Confucius
Your people are likely to be your most expensive investment – and as with any investment, they need nurturing to achieve their full potential. We will help you develop an integrated plan that looks at all areas of the ‘employee lifecycle’, so that any investment you do make is given the best opportunity to grow. That plan might start with deciding what skills and people you need to grow your business, through to building your succession – and no matter how big or small you are, you’ll always need one of those!
We will help you create an integrated plan or talent strategy that will enable you to focus on the people priorities that will deliver the impact you’re looking for. We will help you be consistent, be clear who you’re investing in, how and why, and be efficient with your plan to gain maximum return. And we will help you consider all aspects of the plan, identify your priorities, and support your drive and purpose in nurturing that most expensive investment.
Management Skills Development
“The best results come when you reduce friction and increase communication .” Anonymous
People leave their boss, not their job. This is a statement we’ve heard (and experienced) many times. Individual employees have a relationship with their boss, their manager, and as such, management skills become the foundation to any successful working relationship. Yet many managers are not trained in core management skills and as a result a gap can occur. We can help you fill those gaps.
We will look at areas such as the quality of 1-1 conversations, how performance and development happens, methods for communication and how managers delegate. All of these areas have the potential to be a gap, so following a diagnosis exercise we will help you find the right tools and activities to limit those gaps and build confidence and competence in managing people.
“It's not the strongest species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change.” Charles Darwin
We believe that everyone wants to develop so they can do their job better – with some even wanting to develop so they can do the MD’s job!
Understanding where individual strengths lie, or a person’s motivating behaviours that will naturally enhance performance, or even the views of those others surrounding that individual, all of these can help assess an individual’s needs and ‘fit’ in a business.
Using simple yet impactful talent assessment tools, we can provide insight as to the assessment of candidates for a specific role, quickly identify strengths, motivating needs and potential, as well as perspectives of others and areas of development or gaps. Qualified in the use of PI (Predictive Index), Strengthscope, Lumina Spark Profiling and PDI’s 360, we can provide valuable assessment information on the talent in your business, helping you make good decisions about hiring, engaging, developing and motivating your people.
“Vision without action is a day dream; action without vision is a nightmare.” Japanese Proverb.
Let us help you make the most of your business, irrespective of size. We can help you to be clear on your vision, on expected performance, and how you get there.
Using that knowledge, we can help you use what you have, build upon what you need and exceed your own expectations using the potential of your people – and even help you plan for those yet to join you. Looking at your vision, or even helping you create it, we can help you map it back to the employee lifecycle, thereby creating effective joined-up ways of working that support the delivery of your vision.
“Teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” Anonymous
Team building can be rewarding for everyone and it is much more than just fun & games. Creating high performing teams, teams that can truly trust one another, and teams that achieve more because they work seamlessly together – that’s what we believe team development is all about.
Using tools like Patrick Lencioni’s model of The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team, or development tools such as MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) and PI (Predictive Index), we can help you build your team from the ground up, enabling them to recognise their strengths and watch-outs, realise their potential as a team, whilst using experiential exercises to practice those high value team behaviours. Team development should be fun – and also challenging, rewarding, and impactful. That’s what we aim to do you for you.

There is so much to explore on the subject of talent management. There is also so much that can be considered intuitive and common sense. Yet so many businesses are lagging behind in recognising the importance of applied thinking in this area.
As Dave Ulrich (serious HR guru!) states, “the war for talent is over, and talent won”. We can help you think about your business and your own ‘war for talent’ - If you need a partner to bounce ideas, share strategies, or just challenge your understanding, then talk to us.
Curiosity is welcome.
